At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated the necessity of at least 200,000 European peacekeepers to prevent a potential Russian assault post any ceasefire agreement. Zelenskiy emphasized the urgency for security guarantees against future Russian aggression. During a panel interview after his address, Zelenskiy indicated that this number, equivalent to France's armed forces, would be a basic requirement given Russia's larger military. He also stressed that a peacekeeping force alone would not suffice as a security measure for Ukraine. Regarding his efforts to arrange a meeting with President Trump, Zelenskiy mentioned that teams were actively working on it. Trump, back in office, has pledged to resolve the conflict without specifying a plan. Zelenskiy rejected Russian demands for substantial military reductions, underlining Ukraine's commitment to maintaining its defensive capabilities. Additionally, he urged Europe to establish a unified security and defense strategy to ensure its global influence and ability to maintain peace. In response to Trump's proposal to increase NATO members' defense spending to 5% of GDP, Zelenskiy supported the idea, emphasizing the importance of fair distribution of resources without compromising other essential sectors like healthcare and social welfare.
