U.S. Government Lifts Tornado Cash Sanctions

The U.S. Department of Treasury announced the removal of sanctions against Tornado Cash, a platform previously utilized by North Korean Lazarus hackers for laundering stolen cryptocurrency. Tornado Cash had been sanctioned for laundering over $7 billion and facilitating cyberattacks by North Korea's Lazarus Group. The founders of Tornado Cash have been charged with aiding in the laundering of more than $1 billion, according to documents from the U.S. Justice Department. The Treasury Department emphasized its commitment to combating state-sponsored hacking and money laundering campaigns targeting North Korea.
