The U.S. Department of Justice has charged 12 Chinese government-linked hackers for allegedly hacking over 100 American organizations throughout a decade. Two of the indicted individuals are associated with the Chinese hacking group APT27 and are accused of conducting ongoing, profit-driven cyber intrusions since 2013, targeting U.S. technology companies, think tanks, and various organizations. Additionally, the DOJ has brought charges against eight employees of the Chinese government hacking contractor I-Soon, alleging their involvement in an extensive hacking operation spanning from 2016 to 2023, which resulted in substantial profits in the tens of millions of dollars. Their targets included U.S. organizations, some of which were critical of the Chinese government.
