In Davos, Switzerland on Thursday, Ukraine expressed appreciation for President Donald Trump's stance on imposing tariffs and sanctions on Russia as a means to push for a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. Trump's recent warning to Russia was deemed a "strong signal" by Ukraine.

During a discussion panel in Davos, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commended Trump's assertive approach, stating, "We do really welcome such strong messages from President Trump and we believe that he will be the winner. And we believe that we have an additional chance to get new dynamic in diplomatic efforts to end this war."

Kyiv has consistently called on its allies to implement harsher sanctions on Russia to increase the costs of the conflict for Moscow and dissuade further aggressions. The Kremlin acknowledged Trump's threat but noted that it was attentive to "all nuances" in his rhetoric and remained open to dialogue.

Trump's urgency to end the conflict raised concerns in Kyiv and among European allies, fearing that rushing into a deal could favor Russia and lead to significant concessions from Ukraine. Kyiv has stressed the necessity of a fair and enduring peace agreement.
