TSMC Plans $100B Expansion in US Chip Manufacturing, Announced by Trump

The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company intends to invest at least $100 billion in U.S. chip manufacturing over the next four years, a plan revealed by Donald Trump. This investment will involve constructing five advanced fabrication facilities and generating around 6,000 direct jobs, according to TSMC President C.C. Wei. The expansion builds upon TSMC's prior $65 billion investment and is backed by the Biden-era CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. TSMC's decision holds great importance for U.S. economic and national security, particularly given the ongoing tensions involving the U.S., China, and Taiwan.
