British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to meet soon during a call on Sunday, where they discussed the strong ties between their two countries and the royal family, according to a statement from Downing Street.

"The two leaders emphasized the importance of the close and warm relationship between the UK and the U.S., with the president expressing his respect and fondness for the royal family," the statement from Starmer's office at Downing Street conveyed.

"They agreed to meet in the near future and anticipate further discussions at that time."

Starmer is eager to showcase Britain to Trump and prominent U.S. corporations as his government endeavors to revitalize the stagnant British economy.

During a flight on Air Force One, Trump mentioned that his potential first international trip could be to Saudi Arabia or Britain, sparking speculation in some British media outlets about a possible state visit to London.

Following a meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II during his initial presidency in 2019, Trump hailed her as a "great woman" who "never made mistakes."

While the Downing Street statement did not address a potential point of contention over Trump's call for NATO countries, including Britain, to increase their military spending, it was also silent on the review of London's agreement with Mauritius concerning the future of a U.S.-British military base.

Starmer and Trump also delved into recent developments in the Middle East, with the British leader commending Trump for his efforts in securing a ceasefire in Gaza.

"They also touched on trade and the economy, with the prime minister outlining our deregulation efforts to stimulate growth," the statement added.
