Moscow announced on Friday that its forces had reclaimed another village as part of their efforts to remove Ukrainian forces from the remaining positions they hold inside Russia's Kursk region.
The defense ministry reported that Russian troops had regained control of Goncharovka, a village still under Ukrainian control. There has been no immediate response from Kyiv.
At the height of its surprise invasion into western Russia on August 10 last year, Ukraine claimed control over approximately 100 settlements with the objective of diverting Russian forces from eastern Ukraine and gaining leverage in negotiations.
Despite Ukraine's initial gains, Russian forces, with support from North Korean troops, have progressively recaptured lost territories, putting pressure on Ukraine by severing its supply lines.
Instructing his commanders to swiftly expel the remaining Ukrainian troops, President Vladimir Putin emphasized the ultimatum: they must "surrender or die."
