British actor-comedian Russell Brand is facing a lawsuit in the UK over sexual abuse allegations - the first legal action taken against him in Britain following accusations from multiple women regarding sexual assaults and inappropriate conduct.
Court records show that Brand, 49, was sued at London's High Court on February 6, but further details about the lawsuit are not yet available.
The claimant's legal representatives have declined to provide comments, and there has been no immediate response from Brand's representatives regarding the lawsuit. Brand, currently based in the United States, has previously stated that he has never engaged in non-consensual sex.
This legal action in London follows reports from the Sunday Times newspaper and Channel 4 TV's "Dispatches" documentary in 2023, where four women alleged that Brand had sexually assaulted them, including an accusation of rape, spanning from 2006 to 2013. Subsequently, the police disclosed that following the publication and broadcast of these allegations, a report was made regarding an assault that reportedly occurred in London in 2003.
Once a prominent figure in British comedy and broadcasting and the former spouse of American pop singer Katy Perry, Brand has transitioned into an internet social commentator in recent years.
