NASA and Boom Supersonic have shared a groundbreaking image of the XB-1 jet breaking the sound barrier above the Mojave Desert on February 10, 2025, during its second supersonic flight. CEO of Boom Supersonic, Blake Scholl, emphasized the importance of the image, saying, "This image makes the invisible visible." The image revealed that the XB-1 did not produce an audible sonic boom at Mach 1.18, potentially paving the way for quicker commercial flights without disturbing sonic booms. Furthermore, Boom Supersonic introduced a new methodology called "Boomless Cruise," aiming to enable supersonic commercial flights without generating sonic booms that reach the ground.
