Kremlin: Iran's Nuclear Program to be Discussed in Future Russia-US Talks

The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that upcoming discussions between Russia and the United States would cover Iran's nuclear program, a topic briefly addressed in previous talks last month.

According to a Bloomberg report on Tuesday, Russia has agreed to facilitate communication between the Trump administration and Iran on various issues, including Tehran's nuclear program and its support for anti-U.S. groups in the region.

While the Kremlin has not officially confirmed this, it has emphasized that Iran will be a key focus of the forthcoming talks between Washington and Moscow.

Regarding Russia's stance on the matter, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, "The Russian position is that the issue of Iran's nuclear program should be resolved solely through peaceful diplomatic means." He added, "Russia believes in the potential for peaceful solutions given our strong partnership with Iran."

In response to the U.S.'s renewed pressure on Iran, including efforts to cease Tehran's oil exports to prevent nuclear weapon acquisition, Russia has strengthened its relations with Iran, signing a strategic cooperation agreement in January.

Peskov mentioned that the topic of Iran was briefly discussed during the Russia-U.S. talks in Saudi Arabia last month, noting, "It was mentioned in Riyadh, but not in great detail."

When asked about the Bloomberg report, Peskov reiterated, "The subject of Iran was indeed raised, but not extensively."
