On Wednesday, Microsoft launched a chat service that enables businesses to utilize on-demand AI agents for routine tasks, with a focus on the pay-as-you-go model to increase technology adoption.

The new service, Copilot Chat, powered by OpenAI's GPT-4, enables users to develop AI agents using languages like English and Mandarin for various tasks such as market research, strategy document writing, and meeting preparation.

Advanced functions like summarizing and transcribing Teams calls, and creating PowerPoint slides, are available under a $30 monthly Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.

Microsoft, along with other major tech firms, is facing pressure to demonstrate returns on its substantial AI investments, as it plans to allocate around $80 billion in the current fiscal year toward data centers and AI infrastructure.

Following skepticism about Copilot's acceptance raised in a previous Gartner report, Microsoft has been actively promoting its usage.

In November, Microsoft introduced the option for customers to create autonomous agents that require minimal human input, a move that analysts believe could provide tech companies with a more straightforward path to monetization.
