Lula of Brazil Advocates Conviction for Bolsonaro if Charges Are Substantiated

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated on Thursday that if allegations against former President Jair Bolsonaro regarding a 2022 coup plot are substantiated, he should face imprisonment. Bolsonaro was accused earlier this week by Brazil's top prosecutor of heading a "criminal organization" with intentions to subvert the country's democracy after losing the 2022 election to Lula, allegedly planning to poison him. Lula, in a radio interview, emphasized the gravity of the charges, asserting that if proven, Bolsonaro and his accomplices must be apprehended. He underscored that while entitled to a defense, conviction is the only plausible outcome if the allegations are validated.
