Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed ending the war in Ukraine during a conversation on Wednesday, with the Kremlin confirming that they plan to meet in the future. Putin extended an invitation to Trump to visit Moscow.
This discussion between Putin and Trump marks the first time Putin has spoken with a sitting U.S. president since February 2022 when he communicated with Joe Biden just before deploying troops to Ukraine. The Kremlin reported that the leaders also touched on the Middle East, bilateral relations, Ukraine, and the possibility of a prisoner exchange between the two countries.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, "Putin invited the U.S. president to visit Moscow and expressed his readiness to host American officials to discuss shared interests, particularly focusing on the Ukrainian conflict." Peskov added that both leaders agreed to maintain open lines of communication, including the prospect of an in-person meeting.
Trump, known for his book "Trump: The Art of the Deal" published in 1987, has emphasized his desire to conclude the conflict and expressed his intention to meet with Putin, although details regarding the timing and location of their potential summit remain undisclosed.
