Japan's Trade Minister Yoji Muto was unsuccessful in obtaining assurances from U.S. Officials regarding tariff exemptions, which are due to be implemented soon. While discussions with U.S. Officials acknowledged Japan's contributions, the requested tariff exemptions for key exports such as cars, steel, and aluminum were not granted.
Muto emphasized that Japan should be spared from the 25% tariffs on steel, aluminum, and auto exports to the U.S., but did not receive guarantees of exemption. Additionally, both parties discussed energy cooperation initiatives, notably joint liquefied natural gas development, in line with previous agreements.
