Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has announced the acquisition of an offshore wind project in Britain from COBRA Group and Flotation Energy. The 480-megawatt fixed-bottom offshore wind project, named Morecambe, is located off the Lancashire coast in the Eastern Irish Sea. It is anticipated to provide energy for over half a million households. The project secured its lease in a UK offshore wind leasing round in 2021, and planning applications have been submitted. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Flotation Energy, a subsidiary of TEPCO Renewable Power, will remain actively involved in the project as a development partner. The UK government's target is to achieve 43-50 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind power by 2030, as part of its commitment to addressing climate change.
