China’s state media criticizes CK Hutchison’s Panama port deal in a deleted post

Chinese state media criticized Hong Kong conglomerate CK Hutchison's plan to sell its ports near the Panama Canal to a group led by BlackRock in a social media post that was removed shortly after it was published.

An account linked to state broadcaster CCTV stated that the transaction involved significant national interests and described the sale as "tantamount to handing a knife to an opponent." It cautioned that as a Hong Kong company, CK Hutchison needed to be cautious in handling deals that could adversely affect China's national interests.

The swift removal of the post underscores the growing opposition to the deal in China, where the market regulator announced it would review the transaction. Despite this scrutiny, sources indicated that the deal has not been called off.
