In 1958, novice photographer Art Kane conceived the idea to capture a large group photo featuring numerous jazz icons for Esquire magazine. A street in Harlem was selected as the backdrop, invitations were dispatched, yet uncertainty loomed over who would appear and how the ambitious plan would unfold.
To Art Kane's joy, the turnout exceeded expectations – 58 musicians, including renowned jazz figures, graced the gathering.
The resulting photograph has since become a quintessential piece of modern music history, inspiring numerous tributes throughout the years.
