SYDNEY, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers called on Australians to exercise caution when utilizing the Chinese AI model DeepSeek, joining other governments in highlighting potential concerns over its use.

"We would urge Australians to be wary of this emerging technology," Chalmers stated during a news conference on Monday. "We are consistently receiving advice on the matter."

DeepSeek, a cost-effective Chinese artificial intelligence model potentially surpassing U.S. competitors, caused turbulence in global markets upon its recent release, impacting AI chip leader Nvidia.

On Tuesday, U.S. officials announced an investigation into DeepSeek.
