European Union antitrust regulators are set to make a decision by March 12 on U.S. chipmaker AMD's $4.9 billion bid to acquire server maker ZT Systems, according to a European Commission filing from Wednesday.
AMD initiated the bid in August last year, aiming to enhance its artificial intelligence chip and hardware portfolio to better compete with Nvidia.
The EU commission may approve the acquisition as is or with certain conditions after its initial assessment, or it may opt for a more in-depth four-month investigation if significant concerns arise.
ZT Systems specializes in AI infrastructure for major hyperscale computing firms, counting Microsoft and Meta Platforms among its clients.
