Germany's Munich and Hamburg airports were affected by strikes conducted by public sector union Verdi on Thursday and Friday, resulting in approximately 80% of flights being canceled in Munich.
Munich, Germany's second-largest airport, warned of the potential for further flight cancellations, advising passengers to contact their respective airlines for travel arrangements.
Verdi has initiated multiple strikes in Germany since wage negotiations began in January.
The union announced that employees at Hamburg airport's operator and various services, including maintenance, IT, security, and baggage handling, would refrain from work during the two-day strike period.
The German airport association ADV reported that the strikes, along with previous walkouts in Duesseldorf and Cologne earlier in the week, were causing disruptions to the travel plans of nearly 300,000 passengers.
ADV emphasized that "Two-day strikes that cut off German metropolitan regions from international air travel go far beyond what could qualify as token strikes."
