On Saturday, authorities reported that a collision between two buses in Bolivia resulted in the deaths of at least 37 individuals and numerous injuries in the western Potosi region.
The tragic incident occurred early in the morning along the route between Uyuni and Colchani when one of the buses veered into oncoming traffic. A spokesperson from the Departmental Police Command of Potosi relayed, "As a result of this fatal accident, 39 individuals are receiving treatment at four hospitals in Uyuni, while 37 individuals have tragically lost their lives."
Authorities are currently engaged in the process of identifying the deceased and the individuals who sustained injuries and are being treated at hospitals. At the accident site, a crane was utilized to overturn one of the buses that had flipped onto its side, with officers seen retrieving bodies from the vehicles and transferring them covered in blankets.
The preliminary investigation suggests that one of the buses crossed into the opposite lane, likely due to speeding, leading to the collision, as stated by the Bolivian Ministry of Government.
