Ukrainian and U.S. teams may convene in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to discuss the technical details of a partial ceasefire, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. This announcement follows what he described as a "very substantive" discussion with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Zelenskiy indicated that they have instructed their teams to address technical issues necessary for implementing and expanding the partial ceasefire. "Ukrainian and American teams are ready to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to continue coordinating steps towards peace," he stated on X.
He characterized his conversation with Trump as positive, substantive, and candid. Additionally, Zelenskiy reaffirmed Ukraine's readiness to cease strikes on Russian infrastructure and committed to an unconditional ceasefire along the frontline, a proposal put forth earlier by the U.S. team.
"One of the first steps toward fully ending the war could be halting strikes on energy and other civilian infrastructure. I supported this step, and Ukraine confirmed we are ready to implement it," he explained.
Zelenskiy mentioned that Trump briefed him on his recent call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which Moscow announced an order to halt energy strikes. However, Ukrainian officials reported on Wednesday that Russian strikes had targeted railway infrastructure.
The discussion also covered the enhancement of Ukraine's air defenses, which are heavily dependent on allied supplies. "We spoke about the situation in the Kursk region, touched on the issue of the release of POWs, and the return of Ukrainian children taken by Russian forces," said the Ukrainian president.
