In an interview with Reuters on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy examined a formerly classified map showing extensive deposits of rare earths and other critical minerals. This initiative aimed to engage Donald Trump's interest in striking a deal.

Zelenskiy expressed readiness for a potential agreement with the U.S., emphasizing Ukraine's need for security assurances from its allies. The Ukrainian government had previously proposed allowing allies to invest in its critical minerals, presenting a "victory plan" to bolster its negotiation position with Moscow.

Highlighting the importance of these minerals, particularly rare earths, which are crucial for various industries, Zelenskiy voiced concerns about potential exploitation by countries adversarial to the U.S.

Discussing the mineral resources map in Kyiv, Zelenskiy pointed out vast deposits, including regions rich in rare earths. He emphasized Ukraine’s significant titanium and uranium reserves, strategically located away from conflict zones.

The President aligned Ukraine's foreign policy approach with the transactional stance of the White House. He clarified that Ukraine intended to forge mutually beneficial partnerships for resource development, rather than giving away its assets.

Zelenskiy informed about ongoing talks with the U.S. regarding the use of Ukraine's underground gas storage sites for storing American liquefied natural gas, aiming to become a central hub for Europe.

As the Munich Security Conference nears, Zelenskiy planned to address key security concerns. He stressed the importance of meeting Trump before any discussions with Putin, underlining Ukraine's necessity for security guarantees to prevent future Russian incursions.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian leader revealed a new offensive by Ukrainian forces into Russia's Kursk region and outlined plans to recruit young men to address manpower shortages in the armed forces.
