Yahoo Sells TechCrunch to Investment Firm

Yahoo has reached an agreement to sell its 20-year-old technology news website, TechCrunch, to media investment firm Regent. TechCrunch is a prominent online platform offering news and analysis on global tech companies, startups, and entrepreneurs, and was part of the media assets acquired by Verizon Communications, which included Yahoo.

In 2021, private equity firm Apollo Global Management purchased the media assets for $5 billion and subsequently rebranded the combined entities under the Yahoo name.

Regent has been actively growing its portfolio of tech news sites, recently acquiring Foundry, the parent company of notable publications such as PCWorld, Macworld, InfoWorld, CIO, and TechAdvisor.

The financial terms of the deal, expected to close in the coming weeks, have not been disclosed. Yahoo expressed optimism about TechCrunch's future, stating that it believes Regent's ownership will help maintain the site's influence and support its continued growth.

Yahoo also operates a variety of news platforms, including Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, and Engadget, alongside services like Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Search.
