US Vice President JD Vance to Visit Greenland This Week

U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced that he will visit Greenland this week as part of a high-profile U.S. delegation. This visit comes in the wake of President Trump's repeated assertions that the U.S. should acquire Greenland, stating its strategic significance for national security. Both the governments of Greenland and Denmark have opposed any U.S. takeover, and polls indicate that nearly all Greenlanders are against joining the United States.

Vance expressed excitement about the trip on social media, sharing a video in which he discusses the importance of the visit. He noted that various countries have threatened Greenland's territories and waterways, posing potential risks to the U.S., Canada, and the people of Greenland. Vance also highlighted that leaders in both the U.S. and Denmark have overlooked Greenland for too long.

Greenland has been under Danish control for centuries, transitioning from a colony to a semi-sovereign territory. Any changes to its legal status would necessitate a constitutional amendment due to its current status under the Danish constitution.

The U.S. delegation will include Usha Vance, White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, with the visit scheduled to take place from Thursday to Saturday.
