WASHINGTON, Feb 11 (Reuters) - The United States, along with Australia and Britain, has taken action against the Russia-based Zservers service provider for its involvement in supporting Lockbit ransomware attacks, citing national security concerns, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on Tuesday.
The U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control has also identified two Russian individuals as key administrators for Zservers, which provides bulletproof hosting services, the statement explained.
Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Bradley Smith, emphasized, “Ransomware actors and other cybercriminals rely on third-party network service providers such as Zservers to facilitate their attacks on U.S. and international critical infrastructure.”
The Treasury further disclosed that this action aligns with cyber sanctions imposed jointly by the U.S., UK, and Australia last year against the ransomware group.
