The U.S. Justice Department is investigating a leak of classified information gathered by intelligence agencies regarding the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, according to a senior official.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche described the disclosure as "a selective leak of inaccurate, but nevertheless classified, information."
He emphasized that the department would not tolerate politically motivated efforts by what he termed the Deep State to undermine President Trump's agenda through the leak of false information to allies in the media.
Blanche's comments come in response to a report from The New York Times, which stated that U.S. intelligence agencies found Tren de Aragua was not acting under the direction of the Venezuelan government. This conclusion appears to challenge President Trump's rationale for invoking an 18th-century wartime law to deport members of the gang.
