The Federal Communications Commission is investigating Chinese telecom companies, including Huawei and ZTE, which are banned from U.S. networks under the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act due to security concerns. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr indicated that the investigation will assess whether these companies are trying to circumvent U.S. restrictions by continuing their operations in the country.

The inquiry specifically targets Huawei, ZTE, and China Mobile, all of which are listed by the FCC for presenting national security threats. The FCC has already issued letters of inquiry and subpoenas to these companies, seeking more information about their practices to identify and address any potential loopholes.
