U.S. Emphasizes Need for Concessions in Ukraine Talks on Land and Security

Senior U.S. officials stated on Tuesday that in order to resolve the three-year-old Ukraine war, all sides must be prepared to make concessions following talks with a Russian delegation in Saudi Arabia.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio remarked, "Today marks the first step of a challenging journey, but a crucial one," post the discussions in Riyadh.

Mike Waltz, the White House national security adviser part of the U.S. team with special envoy Steve Witkoff, informed journalists that no summit date had been established between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin.

According to the U.S. delegation, negotiations will cover topics such as territory and security assurances for Ukraine, currently under control of about a fifth by Russia.

Rubio emphasized that Trump aims to swiftly conclude the conflict, striving for a just, lasting, and viable agreement.

Expressing concerns among Ukraine and European allies regarding the U.S.-led initiative, Rubio underscored the necessity for an agreement that is "acceptable to everyone involved," including Ukraine, European partners, and Russia.
