The U.S. Defense Department announced the addition of several Chinese tech giants to a list of companies collaborating with China's military. This list includes Tencent Holdings, CATL, Changxin Memory Technologies, Quectel Wireless, Autel Robotics, COSCO Shipping Holdings, CNOOC China Ltd, and CNOOC International Trading. The list, known as the "Section 1260H list," comprises 134 companies. While this designation does not immediately impose restrictions, it serves as a warning to U.S. entities about the risks associated with working with these companies. Tencent and CATL disputed their inclusion, emphasizing they are not involved in military-related activities. Other companies on the list faced share price declines. The U.S.'s actions highlight strained U.S.-China relations, with experts cautioning against business dealings with Chinese firms deemed potential security risks. The Pentagon added MGI Tech and Origincell Technology while removing six others from the list. U.S. lawmakers pressured the Pentagon to update the list, concerned about collaborations such as Ford Motor's plans to use CATL technology. Previous companies on the list, including Xiaomi and Luokung Technology, are still listed despite legal challenges.
