UNICEF Reveals Widespread Child Sexual Violence Deepening Sudan War Crisis

In Sudan since early 2024, UNICEF has documented 221 cases of child rape, with victims as young as one year old. Alarmingly, one-third of the victims are boys, and among the survivors, 16 children are under the age of five. These cases have occurred across nine states in Sudan. Sexual violence is being utilized as a weapon of war, targeting children during city invasions, while fleeing conflict, or in return for basic necessities like food. The limited availability of medical facilities and recent reductions in US aid exacerbate the vulnerability of these survivors.
