In Kyiv on January 26, Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted 50 out of 72 Russian drones launched overnight and targeted one of Russia's largest oil refineries, as stated by Ukraine's military.
Authorities, both military and civilian, have not yet disclosed any casualties or damages resulting from the attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy revealed that Russia used significant military force, including 1,250 aerial bombs, over 750 attack drones, and more than 20 missiles in the past week against Ukraine.
Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of deterrence against such actions and highlighted the collaborative efforts with partners to boost defense capabilities and restrict Russia's capacity to threaten Ukraine.
Addressing the need for unified action, Zelenskiy stressed the significance of long-range capabilities, the imposition of sanctions, and potentially reducing oil prices to safeguard lives.
The Kyiv general staff confirmed another airstrike on Russia's Ryazan oil refinery, one of the four major refineries in Russia, resulting in explosions and fires in the target area.
On the Russian side, the Defense Ministry reported the destruction of 15 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory, in addition to two sea drones in the Black Sea, with specific drone interceptions detailed in the Ryazan, Kursk, and Belgorod regions.
Despite the attacks, Ryazan governor Pavel Malkov confirmed no casualties from the recent drone incidents, with damage assessment still ongoing.
