The man suspected of a stabbing incident in central Amsterdam is a 30-year-old Ukrainian national from the eastern Donetsk region, according to local police. He is accused of wounding five individuals with multiple knives during a rampage near the busy Dam Square.

The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident, with assistance from bystanders, and sustained a leg injury during the arrest. He had checked into an Amsterdam hotel on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear before a judge on April 1 to determine his further detention.

Police have not yet established a motive for the stabbings, and investigations are ongoing.

The victims include a 26-year-old man from Poland, a 73-year-old Belgian woman, a 19-year-old woman from Amsterdam, and two American nationals, aged 67 and 69. The Polish man was discharged from the hospital by Friday, while the other victims remain hospitalized but in stable condition.
