On February 11, Ukraine's Defence Ministry initiated a campaign targeting young individuals aged 18 to 24, urging them to enlist in the military for a year with incentives amounting to approximately $24,000 and significant bonuses.

Facing a substantial numerical disadvantage against Russian forces on the front lines, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced the imminent launch of the recruitment effort.

In response to the need for more troops, Ukraine's parliament passed a law last year lowering the draft age to 25 and imposing sanctions on those evading conscription.

A social media video entices potential recruits with the slogan "Change your life in a year," displaying soldiers in action while appealing to Ukrainian citizens aged 18-24 who are prepared for change.

Aside from the stated salary of 1 million hryvnias ($24,000), attractive bonuses, subsidized housing, and exemptions from mobilization for 12 months post-service are offered.

The online post stresses the value of time, advising against hesitation, and emphasizes the benefits of professional military training to NATO standards and unique social perks not commonly found in civilian employment.

In a recent interview with U.S. podcaster Lex Fridman, Zelenskiy mentioned that Ukraine currently has 980,000 troops, while Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an increase of 180,000 soldiers in the Russian army to achieve 1.5 million active personnel.

Revisions to Ukraine's conscription laws have faced criticism, exacerbated by extended deployments without breaks since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, dampening enthusiasm for the military efforts.

Despite calls from the United States, Ukraine's key Western supporter, Zelenskiy and officials have resisted further lowering the draft age.

Military bloggers have shown support for the recruitment campaign, noting the quick learning, adaptability, and motivation demonstrated by young soldiers who embrace discipline and the unit's values.
