Ukraine is actively engaging in discussions with the United States regarding a minerals agreement, according to a foreign ministry spokesman.
The White House announced that it has established a framework for the economic minerals deal and is prioritizing peace between Ukraine and Russia. President Donald Trump indicated that the U.S. would sign this agreement with Ukraine soon.
Spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi mentioned that Ukraine was prepared to finalize the agreement in Jeddah, referencing talks held between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia last week, with more discussions anticipated in the coming days. He noted that the U.S. delegation had requested further consultations in Washington about the deal, which Trump views as a means to reciprocate U.S. support to Kyiv since 2022.
Tykhyi stated that the teams are maintaining a dialogue but refrained from commenting on media reports suggesting that the U.S. aims to amend the draft agreement, which would establish a reconstruction investment fund linked to the sale of Ukraine's minerals.
He added that if the American side has new ideas for finalizing the document and moving forward, these should be discussed at the team level.
The White House has also proposed that the U.S. might assist in the operation and potentially ownership of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy denied having talked with Trump about possible American ownership.
