UK Reports First Case of Bird Flu in a Sheep

The British government announced that bird flu has been detected in a sheep in England for the first time. This case was identified during routine surveillance of farmed livestock at a premises in Yorkshire, where highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) had previously been confirmed in other captive birds.

While this marks the first instance of H5N1 in a sheep in the UK, it has been detected in livestock in other countries before. The government also stated that there is no evidence to suggest an increased risk to the nation's livestock population.
