The Competition and Markets Authority expressed worries about competition within the cloud computing sector, singling out Microsoft and Amazon as leading contenders in a recent report. The CMA provisionally suggested exploring AWS and Microsoft's cloud services under upcoming digital markets laws owing to their substantial market presence. According to the CMA, the cloud services market was valued at £9 billion in 2023, with AWS and Microsoft each holding 40% and 30-40% of the market share, respectively. Criticism has been directed at AWS and Microsoft for alleged anti-competitive practices, while Google did not face the same level of scrutiny from the CMA.
