British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Tuesday, discussing the progress made by U.S. President Donald Trump in ceasefire negotiations with Russia, as reported by Downing Street.
Zelenskiy updated Starmer on the frontline situation, with Starmer reaffirming Britain's unwavering support, the statement added.
According to PA Media, citing Starmer's office, Britain welcomed the progress made by Trump towards a ceasefire in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of negotiations leading to a just and lasting peace.
Despite Russian President Vladimir Putin's temporary halt on attacking Ukrainian energy facilities, he did not endorse a full 30-day ceasefire as proposed by Trump, intended as a first step towards a permanent peace agreement.
Ukraine expressed willingness to accept the scaled-back agreement requiring both parties to refrain from targeting each other's energy infrastructure for 30 days.
Zelenskiy mentioned during an online briefing the need to discuss the details of the Russian and American offers, indicating a potential conversation with President Trump.
Since the conflict began, the war has resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of thousands, displacement of millions, and the destruction of entire towns.
