On January 28 (Reuters) - Ubisoft, France's largest video game producer, has confirmed plans to close its Leamington site in Britain and restructure operations at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm, and Ubisoft Reflections, affecting 185 employees. The company stated that this decision is part of its strategy to prioritize projects and reduce costs for long-term stability.
Ubisoft has faced challenges like delays and the underperformance of key titles, such as Star Wars Outlaws, which failed to meet sales expectations upon its launch last August. The organization is restructuring its global operations to "deliver the best experiences to players in today's highly competitive market," as stated by Ubisoft Leamington on LinkedIn.
In December, Ubisoft announced the closure of its San Francisco and Osaka studios, as well as a reduction in production in Sydney, resulting in the loss of 143 jobs in San Francisco and an estimated decrease of 134 positions in Osaka and Sydney.
Furthermore, the French group has engaged advisers to explore various strategic options for transforming and maximizing value for stakeholders. Ubisoft is currently gearing up for the upcoming release of the next chapter in the popular Assassin's Creed series, titled "Assassin's Creed Shadows," scheduled for launch soon.
