According to a recent poll conducted on Monday and Tuesday, 47% of Americans approved of the presidency as President Trump returned to the White House. This indicates a divided nation in the aftermath of the Republican victory in November. The poll also revealed that Trump's popularity was higher than during most of his previous term. However, 58% of respondents disagreed with Trump's decision to pardon individuals convicted in connection to the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

Only 29% of respondents approved of how Trump was handling the perceived politicization of the justice system. Despite this, 46% of respondents supported his approach to immigration, suggesting a desire for this to be a top priority for the new administration. Additionally, 58% agreed with limiting the number of migrants seeking asylum at the border, reflecting support for Trump's stance on immigration policies.

In terms of the 2024 election, Trump secured a win over Democrat Kamala Harris in the Electoral College, despite receiving less of the national popular vote. The poll results mark a significant moment for Trump, with his approval ratings generally low compared to past presidents. Notably, the survey highlighted that Trump's support was strong among Republicans but faced significant opposition among Democrats.

As Trump returns to power, tensions may rise in America's international relations, especially considering his desire to expand U.S. territory or implement tariffs. However, the poll indicated little backing for his ambitions to acquire territories like Greenland or control the Panama Canal. Trump’s priorities seem aimed at appeasing his core supporters rather than the broader public.

Experts suggest that Trump's focus appears to be on cementing his legacy and pleasing his dedicated followers rather than catering to general public opinion. As Trump enters his second term, it is expected that he will emphasize his legacy rather than prioritize widespread popularity.
