Top Official Affirms Ukraine's Rejection of Frozen Conflict

KYIV, March 13 (Reuters) - Following a joint proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, Ukraine's Chief of Staff, Andriy Yermak, emphasized on Thursday that Ukraine is resolute in refusing to accept a frozen conflict with Russia.

The accusation against Russia stems from the events since 2014, when Moscow's annexation of Crimea and backing of separatists in east Ukraine led to what Ukraine perceives as attempts to foster a prolonged unresolved conflict with sporadic flare-ups.

Yermak stressed, "We made it abundantly clear that a frozen conflict is not an option," underscoring discussions held between Ukraine and the U.S. in Jeddah. He noted that the United States also opposes the idea of a stalemate.

During a television appearance, Yermak mentioned that Ukraine and the U.S. had reached an understanding that European representatives would be actively engaged in the peace negotiations, stating, "The key point is that Ukraine stands united with its partners."

He reiterated, "We concurred with our American counterparts that European representatives will be integral to the peace process."
