Three men were convicted of conspiring to murder Paul Allen, who had previously been sentenced for a £54 million robbery. On July 11, 2019, Allen was shot in his kitchen, resulting in paralysis from the injuries he sustained. DNA evidence connected Louis Ahearne and Daniel Kelly to the crime scene, and police confirmed that the recovered shell casings matched their firearms. Prosecutor Michael Shaw revealed that six shots were fired, two of which struck Allen, including one that became lodged in his spine.
