On January 22nd, Reuters reported that Tesla is set to increase the prices of its cars across Canada starting February 1st. The Model 3 will see a rise of up to C$9,000 ($6,254.78), while Model Y variants will increase by as much as C$4,000. Additionally, all versions of the Model S and X will also go up by C$4,000.
Tesla has not disclosed the specific reason for the price hike. The company, which does not manufacture cars in Canada but imports them, has not clarified the volume of cars it exports to Canada from its factories in Shanghai, China, and the United States.
Despite Reuters' attempt to obtain a comment from Tesla after regular business hours, the company did not respond.
This pricing adjustment by Tesla coincides with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statement that his government is prepared to react if U.S. President Donald Trump imposes 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico on February 1st.
Notably, Canada currently imposes a 100% tariff on electric vehicle imports from China, including Tesla cars produced in Shanghai.
