Tennessee Valley Authority Names New CEO

Don Moul has been appointed CEO of the Tennessee Valley Authority, replacing Jeff Lyash, who announced his retirement plans effective no later than September. Moul's appointment follows criticism from Republican lawmakers and comes just days after former President Trump removed TVA board member Michelle Moore, a Biden appointee.

Having served as TVA's executive vice president and chief operating officer since June 2021, Moul brings 38 years of experience in power generation and operations, with extensive expertise in nuclear energy. His base salary will be $1.2 million, with the potential to earn an additional $2.45 million based on performance. In contrast, Lyash's total compensation exceeded $10.5 million in 2024, including pension and performance incentives.

Moul emphasized the need for steady leadership at TVA, expressing his commitment to investing in new generation capacity, strengthening the grid, and enhancing system reliability. This is particularly crucial as TVA navigates a historic moment for the nation's energy security and works towards constructing a small modular reactor.
