Tencent unveils T1 reasoning model amid rising AI competition in China

Chinese tech giant Tencent has launched the official version of its T1 reasoning model, intensifying competition in China's rapidly evolving artificial intelligence sector.

The upgraded T1 model delivers faster response times and improved capabilities for processing extended text documents. It maintains clarity in content logic while ensuring the text remains neat and clean, with an extremely low hallucination rate.

This launch occurs amidst intensifying rivalry within China's AI landscape, especially following DeepSeek's introduction of models that match or exceed Western systems' performance at significantly lower costs.

Previously, Tencent had released a preview version of T1 through various platforms, including its AI assistant application Yuanbao. The official version is powered by Tencent's Turbo S foundational language model, which the company claims processes queries more quickly than DeepSeek's R1 model.

A comparison chart indicated that the T1 model outperformed DeepSeek R1 on several knowledge and reasoning benchmarks.

In recent months, Tencent has increased its investments in AI, announcing plans for even greater spending in 2025 following an already aggressive budget throughout 2024.
