Taiwan's President William Lai Ching-te hailed a semiconductor investment in Arizona as the "best model" for Taiwan's chip supply chains during a meeting with Governor Katie Hobbs. TSMC is investing $100 billion in Arizona for three foundries and additional facilities, building on a prior commitment of $65 billion for three more foundries. Lai emphasized the importance of collaborating with Arizona to establish a "non-red" supply chain that excludes Chinese suppliers, in light of concerns regarding China's military threats. Governor Hobbs highlighted that the project will create 40,000 construction jobs and strengthen bilateral relations, fostering advancements in technology such as artificial intelligence.
