Swedish police reported on Friday that they have apprehended three men near the Israeli embassy in Stockholm on suspicion of preparing to commit a violent crime. However, it is too early to confirm if the diplomatic mission was the intended target.
According to Swedish broadcaster TV4, the three men were believed to be planning an attack on the embassy.
"We are unable to comment on the potential motive," stated police spokesperson Susanna Rinaldo to Reuters.
The arrests took place in the vicinity of the embassy but not inside the compound itself, Rinaldo noted without further details.
Rinaldo mentioned that the suspects will undergo interrogation.
Last year, Swedish police intensified security measures around Israeli and Jewish interests in the country after a shooting incident close to Israel's embassy.
