Sweden to Enhance School Security Following Mass Shooting, Government Announces

All Swedish schools and preschools have been mandated to develop strategies for restricting unauthorized access following the recent tragic school shooting at Campus Risbergska school in Orebro. The incident, which resulted in ten fatalities, involved a 35-year-old Swedish individual taking their own life after the attack. Concerns have been raised about school security in Sweden, where institutions are traditionally viewed as semi-public spaces with minimal access controls. Minister of Education Johan Pehrson announced that schools must implement measures such as entry registries, controls, and locked doors to enhance security. In response to the shooting, the government plans to expedite legislation allowing schools to install surveillance cameras and conduct bag checks without prior authorization. This move aims to prevent similar incidents, as the attacker reportedly used legally owned rifles.
