Spanish Prime Minister Unveils €1 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine

In Kyiv during an international meeting, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced on Monday that Spain will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth 1 billion euros ($1.05 billion) this year.

This aid is part of a 10-year bilateral security and defense agreement signed in May 2024. Prime Minister Sanchez's office stated that Madrid had already sent over 1 billion euros in defense aid to Ukraine last year.

During the international summit, Sanchez declared, "We'll continue supporting Ukraine as long as necessary," highlighting the importance of Ukraine's government and the European Union being involved in any peace talks with Moscow.

He also stressed, "Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, and nothing about European security without Europe."

President Donald Trump's administration has shifted away from three years of U.S. efforts to penalize and isolate Moscow, moving instead to mend relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Concerns linger among Ukraine and its European allies about the potential for a rapid Putin-Trump agreement that could marginalize them and compromise their security.
