Spain's antitrust watchdog has opened an investigation into Italian insurer Generali and local health insurance provider Sanitas for potential anti-competitive practices.
The CNMC's probe focuses on an agreement signed in October 2022, which allowed Generali customers access to Sanitas' healthcare network. The deal may involve price-fixing and agreements to limit competition between the two insurers, either for specific clients or in unrelated markets.
Generali expressed confidence that its agreement with Sanitas complies with competition laws and stated it remains available to provide the CNMC with any necessary information. The company described the agreement as a standard service provision reinsurance arrangement within the industry.
Sanitas has not yet responded to requests for comment. A decision from the CNMC is expected within 24 months.
